Stella Jean Collection
Desigual x Stella Jean: the encounter with an irreversible woman
A fashion creator, a bridge builder, an irreversible woman. This is how Stella Jean, the designer in charge of Desigual’s latest capsule collection, defines herself. Hers is a story that speaks of identity, awareness and commitment; values that also make up the essence of Desigual.
The signature pattern of this capsule is inspired by wax print fabrics, which are part of Jean's history thanks to her Haitian mother's African roots. In Stella's hands, tradition is deconstructed, graphics are more abstracted, shapes become even more organic. The collection’s key garment is specifically designed to let this print fully express itself. A dress with a knotted neckline, ruffled skirt and tie belt at the waist. It exudes good vibes and its combination of purple, yellow, red and two shades of blue is irresistible.
For our campaign, shot by Daniel Jackson, we have paired this dress with three statement accessories from the #DesigualXStellaJean collection itself: an XXL hat in a delicate pink, raffia fringed sandals in a bold red, and a braided bag combining rope, sackcloth, bamboo, and more. Individually, each piece is unique; but combined, they accentuate the power of the dress and speak to the multicultural inspiration that permeates the entire collection.
The same wax print can be found on another beautiful dress, but this time in maxi proportions. With a strapless elasticated neckline, its five ruffled tiers follow one after the other from the chest to the floor and follow every movement.
The homage to her mother's native Haiti can be felt in the rest of the garments in the capsule. For example, there is a playsuit and skirt sharing the same print, which is once again reminiscent of Africa. When paired together, the two garments create a strong, sophisticated and sensual ensemble.
The last of this campaign's looks to be shot for Desigual by photographer Daniel Jackson is a fringed skirt. The fringed skirt is truly eye-catching: three raffia flounces, each in a different colour - orange, ecru and blue - emanate from the elasticated waistband. For the blouse, we have added a shirt dress with madras checks in two shades of blue and red.
Among the other garments in the collection, a total of 25 designs, are T-shirts which represent a declaration of love for Rome, the city where Stella lives and works. There are also prints inspired by two-tone porcelain repaired with the kintsugi technique and others that reproduce aspects of colonial architecture. Last but not least, there are garments - a jacket and a skirt - whose prints evoke the aesthetics of coffee sacks.

About Stella Jean
Stella Jean is one of Italy's most exciting contemporary designers. Raised in Rome, with Haitian ancestry on her mother's side, her career trajectory has been meteoric. In the last 10 years, she has gone from winning Vogue Italia's Who's On Next contest, to participating in Milan fashion week as a protégé of Giorgio Armani, and designing for Louboutin. Jean understands her creations as a loudspeaker to tell stories that would otherwise fail to capture public attention, stories about multiculturalism, ethical processes, identity, and more. Her discourse has resonated at the UN and the European Parliament and her designs are favourites of the likes of Beyoncé, Rihanna and Zendaya.
